According to data provided by the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission, a total of 58,000 crashes occurred during the three-year period.
By those numbers, one out of every 100 crashes in Montgomery, Miami, Greene and northern Warren counties from 2014-2016 occurred at the top ten dangerous intersections in the area.
Here are Miami Valley’s most dangerous intersections:
1. State Route 741 at Austin Pike in Montgomery County, 85 crashes
2. National Road at Colonel Glenn Highway in Beavercreek, 83 crashes
3. Wilmington Pike at Clyo Road in Centerville, 81 crashes
4. Dorothy Lane at Wilmington Pike in Kettering, 79 crashes
5. James H. McGee Boulevard at Third Street in Dayton, 77 crashes
6. State Route 741 at Alexandersville - Bellbrook Pike in Montgomery County, 71 crashes
7. State Route 725 at Alexandersville Bellbrook Pike in Centerville, 69 crashes
8. Old Troy Pike at Taylorsville Road in Huber Heights, 67 crashes
9. North Dixie Drive at Needmore Road in Montgomery County, 66 crashes
10. State Route 48 at Shoup Mill Road in Harrison Township, 65 crashes
Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission officials said in a release that this data help them decide where to focus their roadway improvement efforts.
“The analysis is the first step to understanding crash frequency and severity on the Region’s roadway network,” MVRPC Executive Director Brian Martin said in the release. “The overall goal is to use the data to identify educational campaigns, enforcement options, and future roadway improvements all in an effort to reduce crashes.”
