Marriott plans to open more than 1,700 new hotels over the next three years.

Marriott, owner of the University of Dayton Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott and new downtown hotel Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, along with several others in Dayton’s suburbs, announced today plans to add 275,000 to 295,000 rooms by 2021.

The new rooms would add $400 million in fee revenue in 2021 and $700 million annually when stabilized, according to a release.

The company credited its growth to a rich loyalty program, profitability of current hotels and range of brands by Marriott.

Dayton has been a hot market for hotel growth over the last several years. The Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott that opened last fall near the Dayton Dragons Stadium was the first new hotel in downtown Dayton in decades.

Since October, hundreds of new rooms have come online or been proposed for Dayton. That's an indicator of how healthy a community is, said Terry Baltes hotel broker and owner of Baltes Commercial Realty.
