Mexican restaurant shuts down in Vandalia, relocates to Huber Heights

A high-profile Mexican restaurant has shut down on Poe Avenue in Vandalia but will be replaced starting Monday by a new location about a mile-and-a-half away in Huber Heights.

Tuesday was the final day of business after a 12-year run for the El Rancho Grande Mexican Grill & Cantina at 7500 Poe Avenue in Vandalia, just off I-75 on the other side of the interstate from the Miller Lane restaurant row. A new El Rancho Grande is scheduled to open Monday, Nov. 6, at 7375 Old Troy Pike (Ohio 202) in Huber Heights, El Rancho Grande President of Operations Gary Rodriguez told this news outlet today.

The Huber Heights space previously housed a LaRosa's Pizza restaurant that shut down in October 2016.

The new restaurant will seat about 200, Rodriguez said, and will employ about 27, including staff members of the Poe Avenue restaurant. The restaurant will offer a 10 percent off food items special the first week

El Rancho Grande operates seven Dayton-area restaurants and another half-dozen in greater Cincinnati. Earlier this year, the regional chain opened a new location on West Dorothy Lane in Kettering, in space that previously housed an Applebee’s restaurant.
