Miamisburg has a tradition of families wearing period clothing during birthday celebrations, and that will continue with Miamisburg’s bicentennial celebration this year.

In preparation for the festivities, sewing workshops are being offered. The next workshop is set for 1-4 p.m. Saturday at St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church.

Attendees should have some prior sewing experience and should bring all needed materials – patterns, fabric, trim, and pins, among other items. They are also encouraged to bring a sewing machine. A limited number of machines will be available for use, but work space is plentiful.

Patterns being suggested are McCalls M7230 and M7493 (dresses), Burda 4762, 7332 and 2895 (men’s/boy’s vest and shirt).

Instructors will be available to help with measuring, fitting, pattern adjustment, finishing questions and general sewing inquiries. Large mirrors, irons and ironing boards will also be provided.

For those not interested in sewing, but interested in a custom dress, stop by the workshop and seamstresses will be available. Questions and reservations may be emailed to miamisburg200@cityofmiamisburg.org or by calling Laura Gore at 478-0787.
