Missing 93-year-old man killed in fatal car crash

The search for a 93-year-old Warren County man has ended at the scene of a fatal car crash nearly 300 miles away.

Thomas Willwerth was reported as a missing adult at 5 a.m. Thursday after leaving his home in Mason Christian Village around 2 a.m. Thursday in his Mercury Milan without saying where he was going or when he might be expected back.

An attempt to locate was broadcast and a “Senior Alert” was issued for Willwerth, who suffered from dementia.

At approximately 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, Saginaw County Michigan Sheriff’s Office contacted the Mason Police Department to inform them Willwerth had been involved in a fatal traffic crash on M-57 in Chesaning, Mich., about 60 miles north of Ann Arbor, when his vehicle went left of center, according to Mason police.

Willwerth was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
