New county assistant prosecutor named

The Montgomery County prosecutor’s office has a new assistant prosecuting attorney.

Ben Mazer, a 2011 graduate of the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, has been appointed to the position and will be assigned to the office’s civil division.

The civil division is the legal advisor to all county boards, county agencies, county elected officials and township trustees, boards and commissions.

Mazer earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Miami University in 2008. He previously practiced law in the private sector. STAFF REPORT

Spring break climbing session offered

The Washington Township Recreation Center is offering a special spring break climbing session on Friday. Climbers do not need to be certified, and belayers will be provided.

The session will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Washington Township Recreation Center, 895 Miamisburg-Centerville Road. The wall will be open to climbers ages 7 and older whose parent or legal guardian completes a climbing authorization form at the front desk. The fee for youth and seniors is $2.50 for residents and $5 for non-residents. The cost for adults is $5 for residents and $10 for non-residents.

Visitors can ‘Be a Farm Kid for a Day’

Visitors will have the opportunity to “Be a Farm Kid for a Day” starting at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Aullwood Audubon Center and Farm, 1000 Aullwood Road.

Participants will learn to do hands-on work around the farm — from hauling water for the horses to collecting eggs. An Aullwood naturalist will guide visitors in sweeping some barns and feeding some animals.

Visitors are encouraged to wear clothes that can get dirty.

Women’s club solicits scholarship applications

The Centerville Women’s Civic Club is soliciting applications from students in Centerville and Washington Twp. for scholarships to Wright State University in 2016-2017.

The club has awarded more than $117,000 in scholarships to 70 students from the area since 1964. Previous recipients can be considered but must reapply. The deadline for applications is April 15.

Information is available through the Raider Connect website under Financial Aid, Scholarships and then under Miscellaneous scholarships. Scholarship applications are also available through the Office of Raider Connect on campus.

Students in the Centerville-Washington Twp. area are encouraged to check criteria and eligibility for the scholarships with that office.

Prescription drugs focus of program

The city will be taking part in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

The April 30 event aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

The Moraine Police Division will only accept prescriptions in pill form. If you have a prescription that is a liquid, they suggest putting it in an absorbent material to dispose of it.

The program will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Moraine Municipal Building, 4200 Dryden Road. STAFF REPORT
