Two stores close at Dayton Mall

Two more stores have closed at the Dayton Mall.

The Maurices and Old Navy stores on the bottom floor near Dick’s Sporting Goods were both closed Wednesday afternoon. January is typically a month where company’s announce store closures or terminate mall leases after evaluating holiday and the previous year’s sales.

The stores were both open as recently as Christmas.

Old Navy is opening a store at Austin Landing, according to Montgomery County records. The retailer doesn’t typically have locations as close together as the two shopping centers.

The parent company of Maurice’s, which also owns Ann Taylor, Lane Bryant, Loft and Justice also announced plans last year to close at least 268 stores.

The Dayton Mall has also recently lost its Elder-Beerman and Sears stores after the companies filed for bankruptcy and closed hundreds of stores.

The Dayton Daily News has reached out to mall leadership, Old Navy and Maurices for comment about the closures.
