Ohio exit polls: Brown leading Mandel, Obama/Romney too close to call

President Barack Obama, a Democrat, was leading Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney at the close of polls, according to exit polling results in Ohio from the National Election Pool Exit Poll conducted by Edison Research.

The firm indicate the race is too close to call at this point.

In the race for U.S. Senate, Democratic incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown was defeating Republican Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel, a Republican, the exit poll found.

The exit poll results are not the final official count. They results come from 3,600 voters who filled out questionnaires after voting or who were reached by phone after early voting. Edison polled Ohio voters at 50 locations across the state. The pollsters found deep divides on some of the major issues of the race, including abortion rights, health care reform and which candidate could better manage the country’s economic problems.

The poll results were released at 7:30 p.m., the official close of Ohio voting hours.
