Maine state police on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, arrested 32-year-old Desirae Cushman and 28-year-old Jacob Moulton, both of Searsmont, on drug-related charges.

Authorities in Maine arrested two people Saturday accused of smoking crack cocaine in a parked car while a 1-year-old child was strapped into a car seat inside.

Maine state police arrested 28-year-old Jacob Moulton and 32-year-old Desirae Cushman, both of Searsmont, on charges of endangering the welfare of a minor and unlawful possession of drugs.

Police said troopers found the pair Saturday inside a vehicle parked in an empty lot in Belmont.

"Moulton and Cushman were found to be in the act of smoking cocaine base known by its street name, crack cocaine," police said Sunday in a statement. "The pair was also found to be in possession of an additional quantity of cocaine base."

Authorities said Moulton and Cushman were smoking crack cocaine while a 1-year-old child was strapped into a car seat near them. Police did not immediately say how the child was connected to either Moulton or Cushman.

The child was turned over to a relative after Saturday's arrest, police said.

Moutlon and Cushman were booked into Waldo County Jail and ordered held on a $500 unsecured bail. Police said officials with the Department of Health and Human Services were notified about the incident.
