The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Edward Garner, 35, killed Aiesha Summers and abducted his two children, Aziyah Garner, 1, and Dior Muhammad, 3.
Summers' body was found in an apartment on Perugia Way, near Steele Creek Road and South Tryon Street, around 4:30 p.m. Monday, authorities said.
Garner's 18-year-old son, Edward Garner Jr., was seen in the car with his father and siblings leaving the homicide scene, police said. Investigators have not said what role, if any, Garner Jr. has played in the crimes.
An Amber Alert was issued for the two toddlers late Monday.

Police said Aziyah was found safe Monday night with a relative on Pineburr Road. Dior was found unharmed Tuesday morning with a relative on Trade Street, CMPD said.
Officials said Edward Garner Jr. voluntarily went to police headquarters after seeing his picture on multiple media outlets.
The location of Edward Garner remained unknown Tuesday.
Garner was last seen driving a white 2000 Mercedes Benz S430 with North Carolina license plate HCV-1629. Police said they found the car Tuesday along Nations Ford Road.
Garner is 6-foot-1 with brown short cut hair and brown eyes, authorities said. He has warrants out for murder and is considered armed and dangerous, police said. If you see him, call 911 immediately.
This is the second Amber Alert in as many days in North Carolina. Monday, a 1-year-old was found safe near High Point after the car he was in was stolen from a parking lot in High Point.
