Former congressman Anthony Weiner is now a free man.

Weiner, who had been serving a 21-month prison sentence on a conviction of having illicit online contact with a 15-year-old girl, left a Bronx, New York, halfway house Tuesday morning, the Associated Press reported.

Weiner still has to register as a level-one sex offender for at least the next 20 years.

The former lawmaker pleaded guilty to sending sexually explicit messages to a high school student in North Carolina.

He was sentenced at first to the Federal Medical Center Devens, west of Boston, in November 2017. He transferred to the halfway house in New York in February, the AP reported.

Weiner served 12 years in Congress, but resigned after allegations that he sent a lewd photo of himself to a college student in 2011.

He then ran for New York City mayor in 2013, winning less than 5% of the vote for the Democratic Party, after he admitted to sending explicit photos to at least one woman after he resigned from Congress, the AP reported.
