Apple has issued a recall of what it says are a limited number of older generation, 15-inch MacBook Pros due to a fire risk because the battery may overheat.

The Verge reported that the company made the announcement Thursday. The affected models were mostly sold between September 2015 and February 2017.

Customers should find their product's serial number to determine if their device is subject to the recall. They can find out which 15-inch MacBook pro they have by choosing "About This Mac" from the Apple menu in the upper left corner of their screen. If the model is listed as "MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)," they should copy the serial number and check it at the specific recall page on Apple.com.

Customers with affected products should stop using them immediately.No other Mac notebooks r 15-inch MacBook Pro units are affected, the company said in a news release.

"Customer safety is always Apple's top priority, and we have voluntarily decided to replace affected batteries, free of charge," the recall said.

Customers can find out about service options and check to see if their laptops are subject to the recall at Apple.com.
