Atari branded hotels are coming to at least eight cities in hopes to attract gamers with state-of-the-art venues and studios to accommodate esports events.

The iconic video game company licensed its name to Phoenix-based real estate developer, True North Studio to develop the hotel chain. Hotel development and design is being led by Shelly Murphy, GSD Group CEO, and Napoleon Smith III, producer of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" film franchise reboot.

According to Engadget, the hotel will offer state-of-the-art venues for professional level esports competitions. The hotel will also have the latest in VR and AR for every age and gaming ability, according to a press release.

"If you grew up with Atari and it's nostalgic for you and you want to sit at an arcade game, it's there. If you are an esports and active gamer, we'll have a studio and a venue and that will be there for you. It's kind of like Atari meets Disney meets esports, and immersive entertainment all in one," Murphy told KNXV-TV.

The first hotel is expected to break ground mid 2020 in Phoenix. Other hotels are planned for Las Vegas, Denver, Chicago, Austin, Seattle, San Francisco and San Jose.
