Shelton was appointed Tuesday to the newly formed board of the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Foundation, which will raise money for the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.

The state agency doesn't receive money from the state. Its budget comes from revenue from hunting and fishing licenses and federal excise taxes on hunting and fishing equipment.

Before the announcement, Shelton already showed his enthusiasm for conservation, sharing an image of an endangered Texas horned lizard.

"This guy was the obsession of my childhood growing up in Oklahoma," Shelton wrote. "Haven't seen one in probably 30 years til this one. Not sure what happened to them. I would like to help though!"
