Paula McNeil told the news station that her children decided to search the woods behind their home one last time and found the dog hanging from a tree.
She said her children were devastated.
"It's heinous. It's pure evil and whoever did this needs to be brought to justice," McNeil said, KFSM reported.
"It's frightening to think that there is somebody close by here that could do this to a dog," she said. "It's very scary to think what's in that person's mind."
As the Benton County Sheriff’s office investigates the heinous crime, the family is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
