Dad desperate for work hands out resumes on side of road, is flooded with job offers

Then Patrick Hoagland, 30, decided to take self-marketing to a new level.

Hoagland created a sign asking drivers to "Please Take a Resume" and stood out on a busy Phoenix street corner handing out his personal profile to passing motorists, according to KVVU-TV.

He got lucky when the owner of a marketing firm, Melissa DeGianfilippo, saw him and took one of his resumes.

DeGianfilippo also took a photo of Hoagland and posted it to her social media network.

“I was driving down Camelback Road in Phoenix near my office and saw this guy on the side of the road with a smile in 110-degree heat, with a sign asking people to take his resume,” she posted.

“I love that he was not asking for a handout, just for people to consider him for a job.”

And consider him they did. Hoagland soon saw hundreds of job offers pouring in, KVVU reported.

"It was just craziness -- phone calls, text messages, emails," Hoagland told the news station.

In the end, he said, he whittled the offers down to a handful and accepted a position at a concrete-grinding company.

Hoagland said he was very grateful to DeGianfilippo and to all the companies that offered him work.
