The shooting happened near Perkerson Park on Deckner Avenue, just south of Atlanta's BeltLine. The two were in a car at the time, WSB-TV reported.
Officers at the scene found the man with a gunshot wound to the head, according to Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer TaSheena Brown.

The child was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston and was “alert” and stable, Brown said.
Deckner Avenue was blocked while police investigated.
