Joe Baerlein, a spokesperson for Ortiz, said former Boston police commissioner Ed Davis was hired by Ortiz a few weeks after the June 9 shooting to monitor and analyze information coming out of the Dominican Republic to help determine the motives for the shooting. "The Edward Davis company is also providing personal security services for David Ortiz and his family," Baerlein said in statement sent to Boston 25 News.
Davis, who was head of the Boston Police Department in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings, served as commissioner from 2006 to 2013 and now runs a security consulting firm.
Ortiz was shot in the back while sitting outside a nightclub in Santo Domingo in what Dominican officials said was a case of mistaken identity. So far, 14 people have been arrested in connection with the shooting.
Ortiz, who was released from Massachusetts General Hospital in late July, shared two photos on Instagram, showing him and his wife, Tiffany, helping their middle child, Alexandria, settle into her new dorm room at Berklee College of Music this weekend.
