A North Carolina day care worker has been charged with breaking the leg of an infant in her care.

Kimberly Boykin was charged with negligent child abuse last month, WNCN reported. The charge stems from an alleged incident that happened on April 23 in which police said the woman twisted the leg of a 6-month-old child and did not report what had happened, WNCN reported.

The child's mother alerted police when she said her child was not acting normally. When doctors examined the child, they found the broken leg, The Raleigh News Observer reported.

Boykin worked at Widewaters Learning Center and officials there have been working with police during the investigation.

The day the alleged incident happened was the same day officials with the North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education made an unannounced visit to inspect the business. They found several violations including where children ages 3 and 4 "were placed in the bathroom to 'think' or to 'have a seat' and be spoken to" and one child being told, according to the government's report, "Do you want me to pop you with a ruler," and a worker showing the same child a ruler, the News Observer reported.

The issues found were corrected according to a letter on April 30, the newspaper reported.

Boykin had been held in the Wake County jail but was released after posting $50,000 bail, WNCN reported.
