The homeowner told WSB-TV that she was clearing some brush when she saw the snake.
"It was at least 2 feet,” Upchurch said.
That’s when she says her dog Annie attacked and killed the copperhead.
"I didn't know if she had been bit until I walked up there, and I could see her snout was bleeding. You could see a little bit on the top," Upchurch said.
She told Huddleston that she rushed Annie to a nearby animal hospital.
“This is our second one in a week,” Dr. Dawn Moore told Huddleston.
The veterinarian said there are certain things you should look for to see if your animal may have a snake bite.
“Usually they are going to have some sort of threshold for pain. You’re going to notice more swelling whether they were bit more on the leg or the face,” Moore said.
Annie was given pain medication for the two bites -- one on her snout, the other on her tongue. She is expected to be fine.
“Annie has had a remarkable recovery,” Upchurch said.
Moore had some advice in case your pet is bitten by a poisonous snake. She said says if you can take a picture of the snake, that will help determine how vets should treat your pet.
Upchurch said the family's glad Annie's going to be OK.
