In an effort to promote social distancing, one Texas zoo is allowing patrons to drive through the zoo for a limited time.

The route weaves through the San Antonio Zoo going by bears, big cats and other wildlife. Cars as big as a full-size SUV will be allowed to drive through the park on a guided route at 4 mph.

"Proceeds from this event will help fund the care of our animals through this closure. This new, creative way to see the zoo will be a gradual step towards our plan to reopen to foot traffic when we are given the 'green light' and the time is right," San Antonio Zoo president and CEO Tim Morrow told KSAT.

Admission for the drive through experience is $32 per vehicle and will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 1 to May 3.

The zoo has been closed in response to coronavirus and is asking the public for donations.
