The emu escaped from a fenced yard at Lynn's Farm and Nature Center, WJZ reported.
Police eventually found the emu at Liberty Road and waited for employees from the farm to capture the bird, WBAL reported.
Sadly, the bird didn't survive its day running free. A police spokesperson said it had died from stress and exhaustion, WJZ reported.
