Police in Maryland said a U.S. Postal Service worker found a 2-year-old boy safe Thursday morning nearly 10 hours after authorities said he ran from family members and vanished from his home.

Update 9:35 a.m. EST Feb. 6: Howard County police said Ethan Adeyemi was found on the side of Interstate 95 around 8 a.m. by a U.S. Postal Service employee. The postal worker told police he had seen reports of Ethan's disappearance earlier in the day.

“It appears Adeyemi walked approximately a half-mile from where he went missing last night and was found on the side of I-95 northbound just prior to the Route 103,” police said Thursday morning in a statement.

Authorities said the child was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital for evaluation but that he appeared to be in good health.

Original report: Police in Maryland are searching for a nonverbal toddler who vanished from his Elkridge home Wednesday night.

According to the Baltimore Sun and WBAL-TV, 2-year-old Ethan Adeyemi ran from his Blue Stream Drive home shortly before 10:30 p.m. and fled from relatives, who were unable to find him. His disappearance sparked a ground search involving police, K-9s and firefighters, the outlets reported. So far, poor weather conditions have prevented an air search, officials said.

Police said Ethan, who is short and black, was wearing a blue sweatshirt and burgundy sweatpants without shoes or socks, the news outlets reported. Although he doesn't speak, he knows his name and will clap when he hears it, WBAL reported.

If you see Ethan or have information about his whereabouts, call 911, police said.
