According to Deadline, director Allen Hughes closed a deal with the Shakur Estate, giving him full access to the late hip hop icon's released and unreleased recordings and writings.

Hughes and Shakur began working together in the 1990s until a fist fight tore them apart and left Shakur in jail for 15 days.

The rapper reportedly apologized for the incident shortly before his death in 1996.

Hughes, who is behind a critically acclaimed HBO docuseries on Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre, will be executive producer with Lasse Järvi and Charles D. King. Tom Pellegrini has also been tapped as a producer. No release date for the project has been announced.

This will be the "first definitive, comprehensive project on Shakur with the full cooperation of the estate," according to Deadline.
