The couple, who also designed the permanent playhouse, presented the donations Wednesday at the hospital, the magazine reported.
The couple, who are launching a cable network in 2020, played the piano, sang songs and read stories from Joanna Gaines' book, "We Are the Gardeners," the magazine reported.
"As we walked in today, a little boy told us that he's 'demo day-ing' his cancer treatment and that's pretty much the best thing I've ever heard. In our world, demo day marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of a newer, more exciting one," Chip Gaines told People. "And that's exactly what we want for you — we're pulling for each and every one of you."
Joanna Gaines said the money was raised through a social media campaign, People reported. Celebrities donating money included actress Jennifer Lopez, former baseball star Alex Rodriguez and singer Kasey Musgraves, according to the magazine.
The playhouse was designed for the nearby St. Jude Target House, which offers free lodging for the families of patients at the hospital.
