Florida man walks out of jail, recaptured hours later, sheriff says

A Florida man concealed his inmate bracelet and walked out of jail Friday but was recaptured hours later, investigators said.

Michael Redding, 41, concealed his inmate bracelet with a visor and walked out of the Volusia County Branch Jail at 7:01 a.m. as other inmates were being released and extradited, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said. Redding was scheduled to be transported to Seminole County.

Redding was initially in jail since Monday after fleeing during a traffic stop, investigators said. Redding was a passenger in a vehicle and ran when it was pulled over. He was captured after a brief chase. He was arrested and charged with resisting arrest without violence and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also had two warrants for petty theft and failure to pay child support.

His escape was noticed at 12:11 p.m. and a search including helicopters located Redding around 3 p.m. in Orange City.

He was arrested and charged with escape and additional drug charges, investigators said.
