A grand jury in Cobb County handed down its decision in the case of Spencer Heron on Aug. 16, according to court records.
The former broadcast video teacher at Kell High School in Marietta, Georgia, was named Kell's best teacher for the 2016-2017 school year.
Police wrote in a warrant that the crimes started during the summer break in 2016, between late May and early September. The 49-year-old teacher met with a female student several times over that summer “under the pretense of meeting for a non-existent school club,” according to the warrant.
Later on, he and the girl had sex, according to indictment paperwork.
The alleged crimes stretch to as recently as December 2017.
Herron has been in jail since his arrest June 1, jail records show. His bond is set at $50,000.
