According to the game's website, the new chapter boasts "an all-new island featuring 13 new locations," as well as "new water gameplay," "upgraded combat" and other improvements. Learn more here.
After Sunday's season finale, a black hole appeared to be all that remained of "Fortnite," according to CNET. Meanwhile, thousands of posts vanished from the game's Twitter page, except for one: a livestream showing a void surrounded by a blue light. The same stream appeared on the "Fortnite" website, Fox Business reported.
Although nothing else appeared to be happening on the livestream, thousands of people were still watching the next morning.
News outlets such as Forbes speculated that during the "server downtime," developers likely would be "paving the way for the debut of the new 'Fortnite' map that has been rumored and leaked for ages now."
"Instead of just the standard update approach that Epic does for 'Fortnite' ... which is going down for a few hours to apply an update, Epic has created an entire marketing and social media campaign, along with a narrative story around it," e-sports consultant Rod Breslau told CNN Business at the time.
