Caryville, Tennessee-based George's Prepared Foods issued a recall Saturday for more than 6,000 pounds of frozen sausage patties sold under Walmart's Great Value brand amid fears of salmonella contamination, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said in a news release.
The affected pork and turkey products, all marked with establishment number "EST. M2206T or P-2260T," include the following:
- 24.92-ounce bags of Great Value Fully Cooked Original Pork Sausage Patties marked "use by" Oct. 16 with lot No. 1091971894;
- 24.92-ounce bags of Great Value Fully Cooked Original Breakfast Turkey Patties marked "use by" Oct. 24 with lot No. 1171971897;
- 35.6-ounce bags of Family Size Great Value Fully Cooked Original Pork Sausage Patties marked "use by" Nov. 3 or Nov. 5 with lot Nos. 1271972894 or 1291972894.
Anyone who has the recalled products should discard or return them, authorities said.
According to the FSIS, people who eat food containing salmonella may develop salmonellosis, an illness that often causes cramps, diarrhea and fever. Although "most people recover without treatment" within a week, some cases may require hospitalization, the agency said.
So far, officials have not confirmed any illnesses related to the recalled products, the FSIS said.
