Halloween cruise turns to 'nightmare' after ship strikes object, passengers evacuated

Hundreds of passengers aboard a Halloween cruise in the Bahamas got an unexpected scare late Friday when the ship struck an unkown object and lost power on its way back to Florida.

Passengers aboard the Bahamas Celebration cruise ship were asked to wear life jackets and emergency steps were taken, Celebration Cruise Line said in a news release made public Saturday. The ship returned to Freeport on Grand Bahama Island, and the passengers were placed in accommodations, according to the Palm Beach Post.

There were no reported injuries. Passengers said they took a ferry to Miami and then were transferred to West Palm Beach.

“No passengers were ever in any danger and everything was handled in an organized and efficient way,” the cruise line said.

But several passengers said otherwise, according to a CNN report.

"One crew member would say one thing, and then another crew member would say something else. ... They had no idea what to do," said passenger Cindy Parette, 47.

CNN reported that some vacationers wanted a refund or at least an explanation of what happened.

"When you expect 2 1/2 fun-filled days and you get basically a nightmare for 24 hours, you should at least get an apology or something," said Armando Fana, 44.

Crews were working to assess damage to the ship, and the company said it would cancel at least two cruises planned for the vessel, according to WFTV in Orlando.

CNN and WFTV in Orlando, Fla., contributed to this report.
