According to the Panama City News Herald, workers found the skeletal remains as they vacuumed the sewer about 9 a.m. near Gray Avenue and Third Street. A cemetery is located on the other side of the street, authorities said.
The medical examiner confirmed that the bones belonged to a human, the newspaper reported.
Panama City police Chief Scott Ervin told the News Herald that the remains, which "have been in there for some time," could be from the cemetery. He added that officials didn't know whether the incident was related to Hurricane Michael, which struck the area in 2018.
