Aaron Lattin and his girlfriend found the cannonballs as they strolled along the beach Friday night, WCSC reported.
Lattin had said he wanted to go treasure hunting after the storm but made the discovery without the help of equipment.
"I wanted to get a metal detector and especially after the hurricane and see if there's anything, any history or artifacts that kind of washed up on the shore. We actually got lucky with no equipment, just spending a day at the beach," Lattin told WCSC.
Other treasure hunters were a little jealous at Lattin's find.
"After the big hurricane, I thought I'd find some nice stuff. I've been doing this for 20 years and found some junk, maybe some mini balls, a few pieces of metal. A nice young couple five minutes before us walks across a cannonball. Wish I could find one too," Jerry Tindal lamented as he spoke to WCSC.
Hurricane Matthew in 2016 also turned up Civil War artifacts. Sixteen cannonballs were found on Folly Beach after that storm, according to WCSC.
