An Illinois mom is behind bars after police said she left a 2-year-old boy in a hot car outside a Dollar General store in Johnston City.

According to WSIL and KFVS, Devyn Imhoff, 33, was arrested on child endangerment, child abandonment and obstruction of justice charges Sunday after a couple spotted the child inside the car and called 911.

Police arrived to find the toddler in the vehicle with the windows shut and engine turned off, authorities told WSIL. The temperature inside was 130 degrees, police said.

Officers removed the boy from the car and cooled him down before emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, WSIL reported.

Authorities found Imhoff about 20 minutes later, after she had been in the store for 40 minutes, Johnston City police Chief William Stark told WSIL.

The boy is now in state custody, authorities said.
