According to KVIA, an employee of GreenWaste Recovery in San Jose made the gruesome discovery while sorting through trash and recyclables.
"I can only imagine they're going through a difficult time right now as well as all the first responders who responded to the scene," San Jose Police Officer Gina Tepoorten told KNTV, adding, "Very difficult when you have a young infant or a child. It's hard for everybody who was a part of that."
The coroner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
According to The Associated Press, the center takes in recyclables from across Santa Clara County.
