Maroon, 31, a left winger for the Stanley Cup champions, visited the children of North County Cooperative police Officer Michael Langsdorf, 40, who was killed June 23. Langsdorf had responded to a call about a person passing a bad check at a food store in Wellston, Missouri, and was shot in the neck after a struggle with a man, according to St. Louis Public Radio.
The checks amounted to $6,000, the Post-Dispatch reported.
Langsdorf's funeral was held Monday, KSDK reported.
On Thursday, Maroon spent time with Kaleb Langsdorf, 18, and Olivia Langsdorf, the Post-Dispatch reported. He was joined by Chris Wideman, 29, a defenseman in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization, who, like Maroon, is a native of St. Louis. The two players posed for photos with Langsdorf's children and his parents, friends and fiancee, Kim Haag, the newspaper reported.
"It was an easy thing for me to say 'yes' to," Maroon told the Post-Dispatch. "We all wanted to do something right away, but we didn't want to overstep any boundaries."
Maroon said he was “extremely nervous” before meeting the family.
"I've never had anyone that close to me pass away, I can only imagine what it must be like for his kids, his fiancée and his parents," Maroon told the Post-Dispatch. "I hope we went there and lifted them up even just a tad because you never want to see anyone go through anything like that."
St. Louis Hero Network shared the photo to its Facebook page, KSDK reported.
