Officials from the Van Buren Police Department responded to a 911 call Thursday night from a man who said he had been shot, WAGM reported. Police identified the injured caller as Ronald Cyr, 65, who was the homeowner, the television station reported.
Police said they discovered the home's front door had been outfitted with a device that was designed to fire a handgun if anyone tried to enter, WMTW reported. Police said they found other devices and contacted the bomb squad of the Maine State Police, the television station reported.
On Friday morning, officials determined Cyr had been shot because one of the devices discharged accidentally, WAGM reported.
Police said Cyr died from his wounds, the television station reported.
