Timothy C. Cato, removed the concealed sword and stabbed Tyler Chism, 28, in the chest around 2 a.m., then sheathed the weapon and used the cane for assistance as he walked away, The Oregonian reported.
Chism and his girlfriend were arguing when Cato and a woman approached them, KPTV reported. When Cato was arrested he told police he did not know Chism, The Oregonian reported.
Cato remains in jail, charged with suspicion of murder and unlawful use of a weapon. He has pleaded not guilty, The Oregonian reported.
"Our hearts are broken with the loss of our son," Chism's family said in a statement. "Tyler was a person with disabilities that resulted in many life challenges. He also was a person with gifts of creativity and passion, inspired by art and music. His death seems so senseless."
