A man is behind bars in Memphis, accused of attacking another man with a machete.

Kevin Armour, 30, entered a home Sunday night armed with a machete, Memphis police said. The victim, Larry Alsup, told Fox13Memphis that Armour broke into his home and stood over him with a machete while he slept.

Alsup said he's counting his blessings after surviving the gruesome attack. "Pretty crazy. I woke up with him looking over me. His eyes were solid black," Alsup told Fox13Memphis. Alsup said Armour told him voices in his head told him to kill him. Armour then began to swing the machete, according to police.

Alsup suffered severe cuts on his left hand and ribcage, Fox13Memphis reported.

“First I rolled over and he got me in my ribs. Then the next shot he was coming at my neck and I put my hand up and he cut my fingers all the way through,” said Alsup.

Surveillance video showed Alsup running to get away from Armour.

“I am blessed to be alive. I thought I was going to die,” said Alsup.

Alsup managed to make his way to his neighbor’s home next door, where the surveillance cameras captured the attack.

Armour's run ins with the law date back to 2015, Fox13Memphis reported. Police arrested him in September of this year on felony charges of possession of a gun and drugs.

Armour was charged with aggravated assault, criminal attempt of first-degree murder, aggravated burglary and theft, according to court records.

His bond was set at $350,000 and he is due in court Thursday.
