According to WTVA and the Clarion Ledger, police arrested Cari Campbell Cullum, 34, on an attempted murder charge Friday in connection with the Sept. 21 incident.
Authorities said a man broke a window to save the Hamilton woman and her 2-year-old child after she backed her SUV into the water overnight, WTVA reported. Nobody was hurt, police said.
In a Monday news release, Columbus police Chief Fred Shelton said investigators "believe this was not an accident," the Clarion Ledger reported.
According to the newspaper, Cullum, a teacher at Hamilton Elementary School, is being held at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. Another person is caring for her children, police said.
