WAVE reported that in the May 2 incident, 2 1/2-year-old Isaiah Geiling was attacked by a dog -- identified as a pit bull, according to dispatch records obtained by the Courier-Journal -- at a home in Louisville, Kentucky.
WLKY reported that police officers administered CPR when they arrived at the home. Isaiah was rushed to Norton Children's Hospital and later died from his injuries. According to WAVE, the dog, named King, was owned by the roommate of Isaiah's father. The owner said he no longer wanted the pet and that it should have been euthanized.
Isaiah's grandmother, Cynthia Coy, told WLKY the same dog previously attacked her grandson.
"About three weeks ago, he had attacked him and got his ear," Coy told the local news station on Tuesday. "We even have a picture of it. So, obviously, the dog has attacked him before."
Louisville Metro Animal Services spokeswoman Teeya Barnes told the Courier-Journal on Tuesday the dog is quarantined and "will continue to be held until we're told otherwise by the Commonwealth Attorney's Office."
Court records said the Charprings and Geiling were due to appear in Jefferson Circuit Court for their arraignments Monday.
