In all, the Wickhams' guests donated more than 1,200 cans of wet pet food, 750 pounds of dry pet food, cleaning supplies and cash donations of more than $2,000 for the shelter's medical fund. It was all donated this weekend, The Daily Record in Wooster reported.

Humane society officials posted the haul to the group's Facebook page.

But how did the newlyweds, who have six rescue cats, come up with the idea?

"We'd been together for seven years and we didn't have a need for traditional gifts like the mixers and the toasters. We're really big into animal welfare and rescue so we wanted to take an opportunity to give back to this shelter specifically because I grew up in Wooster," Jonathan Wickham told the newspaper.

The donations even had something for the staff, coffee to help give the workers and volunteers an extra boost while caring for the animals, the Daily Record reported.
