Ocasio-Cortez told The New York Times that she has to survive for three months without a salary, but still move to one of the most expensive cities in the country.
She was saving money before she left her restaurant job and thought it could get her through until she started her next job, but she has to move from New York to Washington, D.C. before her January swearing-in, the Times reported.
She beat 10-term incumbent Democrat Joseph Crowley in the June primary. She secured her seat as the representative of the 14th Congressional District in this week's general election, CBS News reported.
But the freshman representative reached out to her followers on Twitter, saying that it will be be OK.
There are many little ways in which our electoral system isn’t even designed (nor prepared) for working-class people to lead.
