Partiers started throwing beer bottles, cans and debris at responding officers, who retreated from the area and called for backup, police said. Officers used a loudspeaker to tell the crowd to leave but the group increased and continued to throw bottles at authorities.
Police then used smoke grenades and tear gas to end the standoff. Officers stayed in the area to make sure there were no injuries or any criminal activity occurring. The streets were clear by 8:45 p.m., investigators said.
Authorities will review body camera and surveillance video as part of their investigation of the incident.
