Ex-Pennsylvania state trooper arrested on child rape charges

A Delaware man who worked as a Pennsylvania state trooper for 18 years is facing child rape charges after a woman said he sexually abused her when she was a child, authorities said.

According to WGAL, investigators on Monday arrested 59-year-old Darren Lawrence after the woman, who is now 22, told authorities that he "sexually assaulted her when she was between the ages of 9 and 12," Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said in a news release.

"The sexual abuse occurred when the victim's mother left the child in the care of the defendant in various locations in Chester County," the release said, according to the news station. "The victim stated that the assaults happened at least once a month for an approximate three-year period."

The woman said Lawrence, who was a state trooper from 1982 to 2000, began raping her “when she was between the ages of 10 and 11,” the release said.

In addition to the child rape charges, Lawrence faces charges of aggravated indecent assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and other sex crimes, WPMT reported.

Lawrence was jailed at the Chester County Prison on $250,000 bond, the news outlets reported.
