Five people, including a 2-year-old boy, were hurt when a gunman opened fire at a Philadelphia birthday party Monday night, authorities said.

According to WCAU and WTXF, the shooting occurred shortly before 10 p.m. during a party on West Harold Street in the northern part of the city. An unidentified man started shooting, striking the toddler; two teens, including a 14-year-old and the child's 18-year-old mother; and a 25-year-old woman, the outlets reported. A 42-year-old woman also was grazed, Philadelphia police said.

The boy, who suffered a gunshot wound to the back, and the two teens were hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said.

The gathering, a birthday party for a man who recently died, occurred while a stay-at-home order was in effect to help stop the spread of coronavirus, WTXF reported.

"They should not have been gathering, but that is not the issue here," Melvin Singleton, Philadelphia's deputy police commissioner, said of the victims.

Authorities have not arrested any suspects in connection with the case. No further information was immediately available.
