Friends of the victim told WSB he was the father of two young children. Family members identified him as Demetrius Collins.
Homicide investigators are working to learn what happened and identify a suspect.
Detectives told WSB that the owner of the home asked a friend to check on the house. When that person went inside, they found the body and called 911.
"He was a nice guy. He was a good parent to his kids," Jasmine Davis, the mother of one of Collins' children, told WSB. "It's shocking. It's crazy."
"He was a good father. He supports all of his friends," Shea Miller, one of the Collins' friends, told the local news station. "He was a really good person. It's going to hurt a lot of people."
Miller wants anyone who saw anything to get in touch with police.
"If they know something, they need to come forward," Miller said. "This is somebody's life."
Police are asking anyone with information to call Atlanta homicide detectives at (404) 546-4235.
