According to the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office, 18-year-old Jerry Timm is accused of behaving obscenely toward children in his Tallapoosa community.
Jason Bowman, the lead investigator on the case, said Timm was known in the neighborhood, and “many thought he was a polite young man who they invited into their homes.”
Some took him to church with them, according to the sheriff’s office.
The allegations against Timm came to light Sunday when someone reported an incident of child molestation, Sheriff Eddie Mixon said.
Deputies went to an address on Riverside Lane, gained more information at the scene and called an investigator. That investigation revealed a neighbor committed obscene acts toward multiple minors in the neighborhood, Mixon said.
“This is a local man who seemed harmless, but in reality, has preyed on children in our community,” he said.
Timm was arrested the same day and is being held in the Haralson County Jail on six counts of child molestation, four counts of electronically furnishing obscene material to minors and one count of obstruction.
“This investigation is still ongoing,” Bowman said. “We are trying to make sure we have not missed any possible victims and that we have charged the offender correctly.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Haralson sheriff's office.
