Raise your glass: International Beer Day is Aug. 2

The beer holiday began in 2008 and has since been held each year on the first Friday of August, according to the International Beer Day website.

The purpose of International Beer Day is threefold: "To gather with friends and enjoy the deliciousness that is beer; To celebrate the dedicated men and women who brew and serve our beer; And to bring the world together by celebrating the beers of all nations and cultures on this one remarkable day."

In addition to simply cracking open a cold one, here are a few ways you can celebrate the internationally beloved beverage.

Go to a local brewery

In 1978, there were 89 breweries in the U.S., according to Forbes. Today, that number has exploded to almost 6,400.

Find a brewery near you at BreweryDB.com. Your local brewery may have its own IBD celebration and deals.

Try a new beer

Either seek out a new beer yourself, or research suggestions using an app like Untappd. Read reviews from others, or enter your preferences and allow the app to suggest a beer to you.

You could also consider trying one of beer's recent, top emerging styles. Trendy beers of 2019 include the contemporary American-style pilsner, juicy and hazy beers, and the American wild ale, according to Beer Connoisseur.

Order beer to your house
