Thousands of gallons of water started pouring from sprinkler heads and light fixtures around 7 p.m. at The Place at Dania Beach apartment complex, the South Florida SunSentinel reported.
Residents were forced to evacuate to hotels or they made other arrangements. Firefighters helped some people with special needs but there were no injuries.
The pool, which holds about 10,000 gallons, was about half-filled when firefighters arrived. They pumped the remaining 5,000 gallons of water onto the street, eight stories below.
