A source in the Palin family told NBC News that Palin was not invited and that "out of respect for Senator McCain and his family, we have nothing to add at this point."
"The Palin family will always cherish their friendships with the McCains and hold those memories dear," NBC quoted the source as saying.

Palin was McCain's running mate during his 2008 presidential bid, which he lost to President Barack Obama. He later wrote in his new book "The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights, and Other Appreciations," which was released in May, that he regretted picking Palin for the ticket and instead wished he had chosen Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman.
John McCain was my friend. I will remember the good times. My family and I send prayers for Cindy and the McCain family.

"John McCain was my friend. I will remember the good times," Palin said in a social media post after his death.
He was a “maverick and a fighter, never afraid to stand for his beliefs,” she said.
Today we lost an American original. Sen. John McCain was a maverick and a fighter, never afraid to stand for his beliefs. John never took the easy path in life - and through sacrifice and suffering he inspired others to serve something greater than self.

Two memorial services were planned for McCain. The first was held Wednesday at the Arizona state Capitol. The second is scheduled for Saturday at the Washington National Cathedral.
McCain, the longtime Arizona senator and Vietnam war hero, died Saturday from brain cancer, a day after his family announced he had stopped receiving medical treatment. He was 81 years old, dying just a few days before his 82nd birthday.
